Yucca filamentosa

Yucca

Yucca filamentosa is an evergreen plant that is native throughout the southeast. It is naturally found in woodlands, roadsides, and disturbed sites. It prefers to grow in dry to moist, well-drained soils in the full sun (but can tolerate part shade). It is drought tolerant. This plant is easy to recognize from its long, stiff, pointy, evergreen leaves, and tall flowering stalk. The leaves stay around three feet tall year round, and the flowering stalk(which typically blooms late spring/early summer) can be up to eight feet tall. The showy, white flowers attract hummingbirds and other pollinators, and the fruits are a food source to wildlife. This is also a host plant for several native moth and butterfly species. It is fairly resistant to deer. Yucca filamentosa is excellent as a specimen plant in a rain garden or yard.
