Scirpus cyperinus

Scirpus cyperinus is a tall sedge native across the southeast. It is naturally found in wetland habitats, and grows best in full sun sites with wet soils. It can grow up to six feet tall, and mostly dies back during the winter. The seed heads produced in late summer are large and fuzzy, and can provide winter interest if the dormant stems are left up. The seeds are also eaten by birds. Scirpus cyperinus works well for restoration projects and erosion control, or as a specimen plant in a wet yard.
