Peltandra virginica

Arrow arum

Peltandra virginica is a wetland plant native across the southeast. It grows best in soils that are wet to submerged, and in full sun to part shade. It has large arrow-shaped leaves that can grow up to four feet tall. It is deciduous in most climates, but evergreen in the south. Yellow spathe flowers mature in the summer and attract pollinators. This plant provides cover for fish, and is a common plant for dragonflies and damselflies to lay eggs on. It spreads through rhizomes and can form colonies. Peltandra virginica works well for restoration projects or stormwater control plantings.
