Cladium jamaicense

Saw grass

Cladium jamaicense is a tall sedge native to the southeastern coastal plain, where it is predominantly found in fresh and brackish marshes. The edges of the grass-like lower leaves have saw teeth, hence the common name of Saw grass. This plant produces large clusters of dark brown flowers that extend over the top of the green leaves throughout much of summer and fall. It provides good cover for wildlife. Cladium jamaicense works well for restoration projects.
