Amsonia tabernaemontana

Amsonia tabernaemontana is a flowering plant native across the southeast, where it is predominantly found in rich, moist forests. It grows best in full sun and can tolerate soils that are anywhere from occasionally dry to wet. This plant can grow up to three feet tall each season, and dies back in the winter. Leaving dormant stems up until the spring provides necessary over-wintering habitat for pollinators. It is fairly resistant to deer. Clusters of pale blue, star shaped flowers bloom in the spring and attract pollinators. Amsonia tabernaemontana is an excellent specimen plant for a yard or rain garden, and also works well for restoration projects and stormwater plantings.
